- Flashback to the 60's
with Peter, Paul, Mary and BennyI share a birthday with Jack Benny, having been born on Valentine's Day; February 14. I also am a big fan of his. I missed the radio era, having been born in 1951 and definitely joined in the (black & white - plazma free) boob tube generation. The Jack Benny program was on Sunday nights and I watched many episodes as a young kid. The Jack Benny world started on radio and if you care to do a Google search on “Jack Benny Radio Show” you're in for a treat. Jack Benny was a very self deprecating comedian, and basically the butt of most every joke on his radio or television show. I not sure the younger generation would catch on quickly to the Benny phenomenon, it contains a cast of characters that you have to get to know before much of the comic scenario makes sense. In the 30s and 40s most everyone's radio was tuned into Benny on Sunday nights. Families sat together picturing each of these characters and scenes in their imaginations, as they listened to the voices of Benny's unique cast. You can try it at home with your family, (if you long for the good old days) just use the computer to travel back to the 30's and 40's and listen to some Old-Time Radio together. In this video from the 60s, the past and the present meet together as Jack Benny hosts; Folk Singers - Peter Paul and Mary. Being an avid folk music fan also, I found these clips to be great nostalgia and fun. (…)
