Wednesday WHY ??? - Dinesh D'Souza - Life After Death
Greta Van Susteren talks to Author, Dinesh D'Souza, about his new book, Life After Death: The Evidence.
Excellent Read …
By Curtis Reed - AMAZON REVIEWER
I am not usually enthralled by books about theoretical posits or analytical discussions. They usually seem heavy and difficult to read, so I bought this book with some trepidation, as I thought it might be another book that "sounded good" but was hard to read.
However, after one day I'm already on page 121. It's VERY easy to read, and quite fascinating. As a religious skeptic and someone who has had the "scientific approach" ingrained in my mind, I find the reasoning and empirical approach to be very refreshing and challenging. There is none of that "life after death is in the Bible so that's the truth" stuff here. Nor is it a revisitation of ghost stories. To the contrary, D'Souza has exposited a very intriguing deconstruction of the "scientific" attempts reduce human experience to materialist arguments and has revealed the flaws in that reasoning. There may be holes in the arguments, but I'll have to think about it a great deal more to know. So far, the most interesting discussion is about the Mind vs Brain dichotomy. Is "mind" simply a result of the physical construction of the brain? Or is "mind" some non-material thing that can exist even after the brain is dead? While I don't think he has (yet) provien that mind DOES exist without the brain, D'Souza has pretty well destroyed the idea that it CANNOT exist without a brain.
If this is subject interests you, especially if you are a religious skeptic who, like me, sometimes wonder how reincarnation, near death experiences, and other well documented (and globally occuring) phenomena can be explained, you might want to pick up this book and give it a try.
Atheists beware: your best arguments are about to be thoroughly thrashed!
